Tom Kirk - Preston Baker - imageYorkshire estate agent, Preston Baker, has made a major new appointment, welcoming Tom Kirk as its new CEO.

Tom, who has extensive agency experience, is excited to join Preston Baker at a time when it has recently transitioned from an employed agency to a fully self-employed model, with a growing team of self-employed Associates.

“The support provided to Preston Baker Associates through marketing, technology, mentoring and leadership training, is second-to-none and allows them to concentrate on doing the job of looking after home movers and delivering a premium service, and I am really looking forward to expanding the company further, and recruiting more high calibre Associates,” commented Tom.

Group CEO, Ian Preston, said: “Tom brings a wealth of agency experience with him that we know will be invaluable in taking Preston Baker Estate Agency to the next level and driving our expansion plans. We are thrilled to have him join us.”

Tom previously worked with The Agency UK, a nationwide network of bespoke personal estate agents, was Chief Product Officer for Boomin, and Sales Director for Purplebricks in both the UK and US, after starting his career in the traditional sector operating as a Branch Manager for Reeds Rains and Hunters. Tom is also a professional football referee.

Tom added: “All my experience in estate agency has shown me that the way forward is a model like the one Preston Baker has adopted, with self-employed Associates supported by a strong, reputable brand, allowing them to spend time with home movers and deliver the best possible outcomes.”

George Trippick continues building the Property Auctions department, expanding the service and making auction a definitive and straightforward method of sale more readily available for all to consider.

Independently owned estate agency group, Spicerhaart, is continuing its lettings expansion programme with the establishment of a new Operations Team.

Remotely based from Cardiff to Colchester, and Birmingham to Brighton, the new team is responsible for all operational systems and procedures, as well as compliance. The team is part of a wider restructure, recently announced, which includes giving Property Management equal weighting to Residential Lettings, as well as bringing in additional home-working Partners, who are focused on building long-lasting relationships with landlords and tenants. “What we’re doing is different to other large lettings businesses, centralising our operations and compliance, enabling our lettings and property management specialists to get on with their job,” explained Operations Director Kelly-Anne Flynn.

She added: “A fully remote Operations team means that we have been able to attract some of the best quality talent and are agile enough to be in amongst our network, identifying challenges and opportunities from the coal face.

“Centralising this support has enabled our Lettings and Property Management specialists to focus on providing the best service to our customers and we are already seeing some record breaking results.”

Spicerhaart Lettings Managing Director, Satwant, Basi said: “Our Operations Team is the glue that binds everything together. They are people with industry and subject matter experience, working in innovative ways to move our business forward. They have made exceptional progress as we continue towards achieving our ambitious target of 50,000 managed units.”

Property auction firm, Pugh & Co, has announced a significant strategic investment in its residential estate agent services by appointing a new Director.

Andy Thompson - Pugh & Co. - imageWith a track record of working with many estate agents and commercial agents in his previous roles, Andy Thompson further strengthens Pugh’s ability to provide a premium service to agents, enabling them to pass on the benefits of a fast, unconditional auction sale, under their own brand.

An award-winning auctions specialist, Andy has over 15 years’ experience of the North West auctions market, most recently as a director at SDL Property Auctions.

He said: “Having successfully established a strong partner agent network, Pugh is using its track record and client-centric approach to take this service to the next level. I am excited to be driving the initiative which will support sales of residential and commercial properties across the North and beyond.

“Rather than focussing on complicated systems and technology, we want our people to essentially be an extension of our partner-agent’s team, providing the reliable and personable support they expect from qualified and experienced auction professionals.

Sam Johnson of Humphrys Estate and Letting Agent, which recently joined Pugh’s partner agent network, comments: “Having worked with Andy Thompson previously, we are already familiar with the benefits of this hands-on approach and we look forward to growing our business with Pugh.”

Northwood agency imageHusband-and-wife team, John and Shirley Ounsworth from Northwood Beverley & Hull, have completed on the acquisition of Osprey Lettings, tripling the size of their business overnight.

“I am delighted for John and Shirley,” said Northwood MD, Phil Gee. “John and Shirley first took on Northwood Beverley & Hull during lockdown and relocated it from Beverley to the Fruit Market in Hull. Selling their existing business and doing something new by becoming Northwood franchisees and taking on a resale during lockdown was a brave step, but they are an incredibly efficient and professional couple, who I know will do very well. I wish them every success for the future.”

John added: “The acquisition of Osprey Lettings is great news as it has tripled the size of our business, allowing us to offer the services of Northwood Beverley & Hull to a far greater number of clients. The response from landlords has been very positive, and everything has now been rebranded to Northwood. We have brought across two team members, which has grown the size of our team and given us more flexibility. “As well as growth by acquisition we are also looking to grow organically. Boards breed boards, and we hope that a planned rebranding will also help to raise our profile in the local area.”

HAUS Properties is bringing a new approach to estate agency, with a community of self-employed brokers that benefits from a wider network of shareholders and properties to market thanks to its unique investment model.

The first step of the launch is a fundraising round, presenting an exclusive investment opportunity that is tailor-made for landlords and property developers and is limited to 200 investors, all of whom must buy or sell at least ten properties annually.

Jamie Lester - HAUS properties - imageJamie Lester, founder of HAUS Properties, commented: “I aim to create a revolutionary and innovative approach by bringing the network effect to often siloed, disconnected, and disparate estate agency professionals. HAUS fosters ‘in-haus’ collaboration and cross-pollination, sharing expertise, support, and opportunities for everyone.”

The HAUS business model will ensure that its brokers will benefit from a community driven company that will fully support everyone within it, with leading technology, training, a strong brand with a robust social media presence, as well as regular networking events. Whilst brokers will be expected to bring their own contacts and generate business, the investment model means that they will potentially have access to 2,000 properties per year thanks to its shareholders.

The investment round is set to be complete by the end of 2023, with the HAUS Properties consumer launch to follow in January 2024, initially in London with a view to expanding to other key UK cities in future.

Dexters Training Academy imageLondon-based Dexters has become the first estate agent in the UK to gain a highly acclaimed OFSTED accreditation for its training academy, which invests in coaching and developing all colleagues including school-leavers and graduates, to become qualified professional estate agents.

Following the review, OFSTED reported extremely positive findings among both the firm’s coaching team and apprentices, who work closely together on the specialised Estate Agency and Lettings development programme, combining industry specific qualifications alongside on-the-job coaching.

The report praised the academy, recognising that “leaders create a supportive culture and are ambitious to recruit, retain and develop future leaders of the business” and that “apprentices feel valued and motivated”.

Dexters employ over 2,000 colleagues, with almost half having achieved professional qualifications including RICS memberships. In addition, DEXTERS currently have over 250 colleagues working towards their professional apprenticeship qualification.

Andy Shepherd, CEO, says: “Our strategy is to invest in our people and recruit, train, retain and develop future leaders of the business, and our training programme has now been officially and independently recognised by OFSTED. We have always agreed with the Government that estate agents should be suitably professionally trained and qualified to ensure they can give the very best expert advice to customers. Our vision is to deliver this through investing in and nurturing the finest talents, as part of our ‘spend your career with us’ culture, about 90% of our management have risen from our own in-house training programme, I am hugely excited about working with the next generation of Dexters Academy graduates.”
